The Japan Karate Association, Sri Lanka branch, which is affiliated to the Japan Karate Association, Japan, was established in 1990 and is proud to be stepping into the 24th successful year in 2014.

The Japan Karate Association's 8th Dan Black Belt holder Shihan Masahiko Tanaka is the Former Technical Director for Sri Lanka, New Technical Director Shihan Shosuke Otani 7th Dan Black Belt, while 6th Dan Balck Belt holder Shihan D.L Lalith is the Chairman of the J.K.A's World Federation, Sri Lanka branch representative and Chief instructor. He has served not only the association, but also has brought glory to Sri Lanka! by being the coach of Chamal Suranga, the Karate Gold Medalist of the recently concluded 10th South Asia Games in Colombo 2006. The 12th Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate-Do Championship 2011 in Thailand and The 13th Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate-Do Championship 2014 in Japan Represent Sri Lanka S.P.I. Umayangana (Kata) 4th and 5th place and K Luthira Madushanka (Kata) 5th place. This achievement enabled the Association to be the best Karate Association in the South Asia,

Further, by introducing Karate-Do in schools and in Universities, the Japan Karate Association's Sri Lanka Branch along with the Ministry of Sports will be taking the sport to new heights, not only in Sri Lanka but in other South Asian countries as well in the near future.
